One of the roles of a protected area such as the Salso Lake Oasis is that of bringing visitors closer to nature and the environment through emotion, fun and the experience of doing something "hands on" , by offering an alternative to traditional tourism activities. Due to its natural value a wetland such as Salso Lake is, in fact, an ideal place for those who love being outdoors, in direct contact with nature, observing birds in their natural environment.
There are different ways of getting to know Salso Lake Oasis: excursions on foot or by bicycle along the banks of the valli, thematic meetings with slide slows and in the near future a boat trip along the canals. Visiting the Oasis means spending a day in contact with nature getting to know and observe birds, plants, unusual habitats and traces of the past, with the help of expert guides such as ornithologists, naturalists, botanists, environmental education officers. In fact, this is the group of experts that the Centro Studi Naturalistici-onlus which manages the scientific and recreational-educational activities of the Oasis offers in order to support those who want to get to know this area protected by the Capitanata, considered one of the most important for the migration of birds at the European level, in discovering and experiencing the emotion of nature.
Birdwatching at the Salso Lake Oasis in the company of experts from whom you can learn the secrets and tricks to entering into the splendid world of birds, is particularly easy and evocative thanks to the presence of over 240 different species which alternate with the change of the seasons.

For excursions by foot, a path immersed in the most characteristic features of the marsh, the reed beds and the path through water on a wooden bridge, take you to the observation huts where it is possible to identify grebes, herons, ducks and many other wild bird species which overwinter or nest in the splendid Oasis valli.
The trail, which can be accessed all year without disturbing nesting species, is an easy 2,5 km equipped with huts and walkways (made of wood and well camouflaged) to host the visitors who observe in silence the marvels of the marshes in small groups led by expert natural guides.
Along a part of the trail it is also possible to observe within the neighbouring Frattarolo Marsh Nature Reserve.
These activities are proposed with the spirit of encouraging the use of the territory's resources, ranging from animals to plants, in order to develop greater ecological awareness on the part of those who use these resources and, at the same time, promote a form of eco-compatible tourism which provides emotions instead of material goods.
