The Salso Lake Oasis, for its biodiversity richness and its naturalistic peculiarities represents a privileged laboratory for protection and conservation projects.
Over the years, the Centro Studi Naturalistici has promoted and carried out surveys, research and projects, aiming to gain more in-depth knowledge of threatened habitats and species in order to better protect them.
The White Stork Project
The White Stork Project, promoted and designed by Centro Studi Naturalistici in collaboration with Junta di Estremadura - Spain (which provided the White Storks for the project), has considerably increased the presence of this species (as you can see in the graph below), both with regards to specimens which stop over in the area during migration and to nesting couples.
Now the project is being carried out by the Gargano National Park Authority.
LIFE Nature 2006 Project - Raptor protection in the "Promontory of Gargano"SPA
The project which is financed by the European Union, has among its objectives the re-establishment of 2 colonies of Lesser Kestrel, in the municipalites of Monte Sant'Angelo and San Giovanni Rotondo. With this aim, at the Salso Lake Oasis, suitable aviaries has been constructed for the reproduction and following release into the wild of young individuals born or those which had fallen from nests in the Murge area, between Puglia and Basilicata, where this species still nests.

LIFE+ Nature 2007 Project - Conservation actions for priority birds in the Salso Lake Oasis
The project, financed by the European Union, foresees the creation in the Oasis of 100 hectares of wet meadows and the regeneration of pools in the marsh thus favouring the stopping over during the migratory period and the nesting of many species of acquatic birds. Islands will also be created in the basins in order to favour the nesting of birds.
Secondary yet accompanying objectives, are the recovery of the fauna of the parts of the reedbeds which have dried up and are colonised by brambles and other exotic vegetation as well as the conservation of Amphibians.
All of the actions will be carried out in the light of experience matured in
the LIFE projects and applying the methods suggested by the MedWet manuals.
Naturalistic monitoring of the Salso Lake Oasis
The monitoring of fauna is one of the activities which CSN onlus is carrying out in order to understand how to manage the Oasis and increase the biodiversity, planning when to carry out maintenance works without disturbing the fauna.

Ecological web Project
The project, financied by DaunOfantino Leader funds and carried out by Salso Lake Oasis, CSN onlus, the Circolo L'Airone - Legambiente Trinitapoli, has the aim of designing a possible ecological web which connects the various wetlands present in the Gulf of Manfredionia seeking to connect more natural areas with areas subject to greater intensity of human activities. The overall aim is to bring about the coexistence of human needs relating to land use with the real necessity to protect the natural systems present.
The Oasis Management Plan
The CSN has drawn up a plan for the naturalistic management of the Oasis which foresees both conservation actions and actions for the regulation of activities, as well as environmental monitoring. The plan has become part of the SPA Marshes of the Gulf of Manfredonia Management Plan, financed by the Puglia Regional Authority and City of Manfredonia.
